Report-more people starve to death in beseiged Syrian rown
Another 16 people have starved to death in the besieged Syrian town of Madaya since UN aid convoys reached it earlier this month, according to charity Medecins Sans Frontieres.
The charity says there are also 33 people in danger of dying.
The group said the situation was “totally unacceptable” and people “should have been evacuated weeks ago”.
MSF previously said 30 people died of starvation in the town late last year.
Earlier in January, two emergency convoys of food and aid supplies were delivered to Madaya, where up to 40,000 people are believed to be trapped in appalling conditions.

WHO Director-General, Margaret Chan, will convene an International Health Regulations Emergency Committee on Zika virus and observed increase in neurological disorders and neonatal malformations.
The Committee will meet on Monday 1 February in Geneva to ascertain whether the outbreak constitutes a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.
Decisions concerning the Committee’s membership and advice will be made public on WHO’s website.
Outbreak in the Americas
In May 2015, Brazil reported its first case of Zika virus disease. Since then, the disease has spread within Brazil and to 22 other countries and territories in the region.
Arrival of the virus in some countries of the Americas, notably Brazil, has been associated with a steep increase in the birth of babies with abnormally small heads and in cases of Guillain-Barré syndrome, a poorly understood condition in which the immune system attacks the nervous system, sometimes resulting in paralysis.
A causal relationship between Zika virus infection and birth defects and neurological syndromes has not been established, but is strongly suspected.
WHO action
WHO’s Regional Office for the Americas (PAHO) has been working closely with affected countries since May 2015. PAHO has mobilized staff and members of the Global Outbreak and Response Network (GOARN) to assist ministries of health in strengthening their abilities to detect the arrival and circulation of Zika virus through laboratory testing and rapid reporting. The aim has been to ensure accurate clinical diagnosis and treatment for patients, to track the spread of the virus and the mosquito that carries it, and to promote prevention, especially through mosquito control.
The Organization is supporting the scaling up and strengthening of surveillance systems in countries that have reported cases of Zika and of microcephaly and other neurological conditions that may be associated with the virus. Surveillance is also being heightened in countries to which the virus may spread. In the coming weeks, the Organization will convene experts to address critical gaps in scientific knowledge about the virus and its potential effects on fetuses, children and adults.
WHO will also prioritize the development of vaccines and new tools to control mosquito populations, as well as improving diagnostic tests.

A senior adviser of Palestinian Authority (PA) Chairman Mahmoud Abbas has promised that the current Arab terror wave, which has left 29 murdered since last September, will soon move from stabbings to shootings.
Sultan Abu Al-Einein, Abbas’s adviser on NGOs and a member of the Fatah Central Committee, praised the “popular uprising” in an interview published two weeks ago on the website of Fatah’s Information and Culture Commission in Lebanon, and revealed by Palestinian Media Watch (PMW) on Thursday.
“We in the Fatah movement are proud of all the martyrs, regardless of their (political) affiliation,” Al-Einein said, blessing the murderers and singling out terrorists from the Hamas stronghold of Hevron in Judea who “have sown fear in all of this cancerous Israeli body.”
“We bow before every drop of blood that has dripped from our children and women, and bow the head before every martyr and martyr’s mother, who carried her child in her belly and brought him up until he became a young man, and when they notified her of his death as a martyr, she let out cries of joy to the Heavens,” said Abbas’s adviser.
He called for the current terror wave to develop, quoting the Koran (Sura 4:104): “And do not weaken in pursuit of the enemy. If you should be suffering – so are they suffering as you are suffering, but you expect from Allah that which they expect not.” Extrapolating, he said, “therefore the occupation, all parts of it that are on our Palestinian land, must suffer.”
Claiming IDF soldiers “are thirsty for our sons’ blood,” he said the PA has “a right to educate our children to avenge our pure blood that is being spilled. We are the victims, and it is the right of the victim to protect himself before he breathes his last breath.”
“Seeking rifles tomorrow”
The open incitement reached a peak as Al-Einein said the terror wave, which has largely consisted of stabbings, will soon escalate to focus on shooting attacks.
“What is being carried out daily against our Palestinian people is what stirs the emotions of our people in the street and what causes them to seek a knife. In my opinion, those seeking knives today will seek rifles and weapons tomorrow due to this (Israeli) terror. If the power and pace of the uprising wane a bit, that does not mean it has been stopped, but rather that it is preparing for stronger waves of rage against the Zionist enemy.”
He added a call “to confront the enemy directly, and keep him in a state of vigilance, anxiety, and fear.”
The call from within Fatah for the terror wave to shift to shooting attacks raises concerns, particularly in light of the aftermath of the 1994 Oslo Accords which removed the terror status of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and Fatah, established the PA and armed it. The Accords largely ignited the 2000 Oslo War or Second Intifada in which well over 1,000 Israelis were murdered by Arab terrorists.
A Fatah official later bragged that 70% of the attacks in the terror war were conducted by the PA Security Forces that were created and armed in Oslo.
Earlier this month Fatah blessed the shooting attack in Tel Aviv by Israeli Arab Nashat Melhem, further showing the open support for a shift to shooting attacks.

Rocks hurled at MK Yellin’s car on Highway 443

Arab assailants threw rocks at MK Haim Yellin’s (Yesh Atid) car on Highway 443 near Beit Horon, to the northwest of Jerusalem in Samaria, on Thursday night.
The attack came after Yellin paid a condolence visit to the family of terror victim Shlomit Krigman.
Representatives of MK Yellin’s office were quick to reassure that no one was injured as a result of the rocks, but damage was sustained to the car’s windows.
“This time it was a rock, not a Kassam (rocket),” commented Yellin. ”We must not stop our routine because of terrorists throwing rocks, shooting or stabbing. We must continue to fight terror with all our might, hug the families of the victims, and not throw in the political towel.”
Twenty-four-year-old Shlomit Krigman was stabbed to death in Mondays’ terror attack in Beit Horon. In the attack 58-year-old Adina Cohen was also stabbed, but was released from the hospital Wednesday in good condition.

One campus of the British School of the Netherlands in The Hague was evacuated for a time on Tuesday morning because of a bomb threat, according to the AD. The warning appears to have been one of a string of threats across Europe, including Britain, France and Norway. The Diamanthorst location, one of four BSN campuses in the city, caters to children aged three to 11.
Schools in several other European cities were also evacuated because of bomb threats, including five in Paris, six in Birmingham and four in London, the paper says. According to the Daily Mail, the British school bomb warnings were made by phone. It is unclear how The Hague school warning was issued. The British International School of Stavanger was also cleared after its second bomb threat in a week, The Local Norway reported.
