Receptor of Kognition and Memory: NMDAr, vulnerable to dissosiative agents, narcotics

June 8, 2015

NMDA receptor antagonists are a class of anesthetics that work to antagonize, or inhibit the action of, the N-Methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR). They are used as anesthetics for animals and for humans; the state of anesthesia they induce is referred to as dissociative anesthesia. (Blocking the memory also)

There is evidence that NMDA receptor antagonists can cause a certain type of neurotoxicity or brain damage referred to as Olney’s Lesions in rodents, although such damage has never been conclusively observed in primates like humans.  (Swedes begin to make trial with mentatly sick cohort of  humans with Ketamin)

Recent research conducted on primates suggests that, while very consistent and long-term ketamine use may be neurotoxic, acute use is not.[1][2]

Several synthetic opioids function additionally as NMDAR-antagonists, such as pethidine, methadone, dextropropoxyphene, tramadol and ketobemidone.

Some NMDA receptor antagonists, such as ketamine, dextromethorphan (DXM), phencyclidine (PCP) angeldust , Methoxetamine (MXE), and nitrous oxide (N2O), are popular recreational drugs used for their dissociative, hallucinogenic, and euphoriant properties. When used” recreationally”, they are classified as dissociative drugs. ( C weapon if   e.g. for foreign soldiers and enemy-  as LSD)..

The group against narcotics  tells:

Ketamine is odorless and tasteless, so it can be added to beverages without being detected, and it induces amnesia. Because of these properties, the drug is sometimes given to unsuspecting victims and used in the commission of sexual assaults referred to as “drug rape.

Comment: to  use  such kind of therapy to mentally ill  patients is  without responsibility.  It is not  ethically right. even can  cause irreversible damage to  neurones,  of the  cognitive  brain cortex.  I wonder how in Sweden- where the science about  cortical receptors is on the internal top level.  Swedish Radio told to day about the  trial with humnan beings.

Sitll some information from internet: A surgical anaesthetic withdrawn from the market due to disorientation and violent behaviour that occurred when patients regained consciousness; on the club scene, ketamine is in liquid form or a white powder snorted or smoked with marijuana or tobacco products
Pharmacologic effects Dissociative anaesthesia, CNS stimulant, hallucinations, visual distortion, a loss of senses, sense of time, and identity for 30 minutes to 2 hours, delirium, amnesia, impaired motor function, hypertension, depression, recurrent flashbacks, potentially fatal respiratory problems.
