300 Yazidis freed to day from Tal Afar

The Islamic State militants have freed 300 Kurdish Yazidi people from the northern Iraqi town of Tal Afar some 70 km northwest of Mosul.
The Director General of Yazidi affairs in the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Ministry of Endowment and Religious Affairs, Khairi Bozani, told BasNews that on Saturday, the IS militants freed 300 Yazidis from the Turkmen majority town of Tal Afar close to Syrian border.
They were mostly children, women and the elderly.“The freed Yazidis are in Kirkuk. Most of them are in a good condition and soon they will come to Erbil,” said Bozani.The KRG official didn’t reveal how the Yazidis were freed, but said that they are in good spirits.When Islamic State captured Sinjar in August of last year, thousands of Yazidis fled to the Kurdistan Region. Thousands more were kidnapped by the extremist group and taken to Mosul.
